The European social security pass (ESSPASS) will simplify how EU citizens moving to or working in other EU countries interact with relevant authorities or service providers regarding social security. By allowing quick and secure digital verification of social security rights and attestations, it will cut paperwork and reduce the risk of error or fraud. This initiative will introduce a standardised digital solution to streamline processes for citizens, businesses and public authorities.
Esspass is a part of the forthcoming Fair Labour Mobility Package. This package aims to reduce administrative burdens while strictly protecting workers' rights and preventing social dumping. The three core elements of the package include, in addition to the introduction of the European Social Security Card (Esspass), the strengthening of the European Labour Authority (ELA) and the promotion of skills transferability.
